Grok Bot fixes
Grok Bot not working?
First, check status.cursor.com for an outage. If there is none, wait a minute and send your message again. Then quit the app and open it again. Leave Reset for last.

Is Grok Bot down?
Open status.cursor.com and find the Grok Bot row. The app doesn't show outages, so this page is the place to look. xAI's status page lists Grok but has no Grok Bot row. Grok can work while Grok Bot is down. You can subscribe on Cursor's page to hear about outages.
Problems happen often in the beta. Cursor's status page lists 22 incidents that hit Grok Bot from August 18 to October 6. The worst run was September 15 to 18, with six in four days. During an outage, don't reset or reinstall. Once it ends, send your message again.
Some stalls never reach the status page. Cursor's staff say these start on their side in almost every case, and most clear on their own within about 30 minutes.
“Can't reach your computer”
Your Bots share one cloud computer. This message means it isn't answering the app. Cursor's help pages now call it “Couldn't Reach Grok Bot's Computer.” Your Bots, files, logins and chats are safe. Use the desktop app for these steps. Cursor's help says the phone can't update, recover or reset the computer. Cursor's help pages give this order:
- Wait, then choose Retry.
- Quit Grok Bot all the way and open it again. On a Mac, choose Quit from the menu bar. Closing the window is not enough.
- Go to Settings, then Updates. Install a computer update if one is there.
- Choose Recover if it still won't connect. In most cases, Recover takes a few minutes. If an update is slow, Keep waiting is the safe choice.
- Choose Reset only after all of that. Reset rebuilds the computer from its last save. It can lose your newest changes and removes apps you installed on it.
Don't start a second update or reset while one is running. If Recover or Reset fails, retry it once. Then stop and write to support.
Still can't reach it?
Cursor's staff on the forum and xAI's guides name other causes. Check these:
- Your DNS. Some internet providers can't find the computer's address. Users in India on Jio hit this. Switch your DNS to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8), and change it for IPv6 too. Or try a phone hotspot to test.
- Antivirus or a VPN. Kaspersky, ESET, Avast, Bitdefender and Norton can block it. Mark Grok Bot as trusted, turn off HTTPS scanning, and pause the VPN.
- A work network. Your IT team needs to allow *.cursor.sh, *.cursorvm.com and *.*.cursorvm.com, and turn off HTTPS inspection for them.
- A new account's privacy choice. Open your Cursor dashboard, go to Settings, then Privacy. Pick a Privacy Mode, not Legacy. Then quit and reopen the app.
- The wrong account. If you bought SuperGrok but didn't link it to this Cursor account, you can get this message. Link it, then sign out and back in.
- A new Cursor password. A password change signs you out everywhere. Sign out of the app and sign back in. You don't need Recover or Reset.
“Model provider is overloaded”
The model behind Grok Bot is sometimes under heavy load, and it turns some requests away in waves. It isn't your account, your usage or your computer. Cursor's staff call it a problem on their side.
Wait a moment and send your message again. If it still fails, quit and reopen the app. Grok Bot has no model picker, so you can't switch to another model. Reset won't help here. If the error keeps coming back, send support the request ID.
Grok Bot not connecting?
Sign-in loops. Update the app, then sign out and in again. Clear cookies for cursor.com and x.ai and try a private window. If your phone loops, sign in on your computer first. If the error is new, wait 30 to 60 minutes. A reinstall doesn't help in most cases. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account, not your Grok account.
Setup hangs. The first start can take several minutes. Keep the app open until “Starting your computer” ends. If it sticks, retry, restart the app, then update the computer from Settings.
An app won't connect. “Added” doesn't mean signed in. If a plugin says Needs auth or Disconnected, tap Authorize and finish the sign-in within about 10 minutes. If it still fails, remove it and add it again. A work Google account may need your admin to trust the app called Grok.
A website blocks the Bot. Some sites block cloud computers. Go to Settings, then Computer, and turn on “Route traffic through this computer.” If every page then times out, your VPN may block it. Turn the setting off again.
Grok Bot notifications not working?
Two switches must both be on: the Bot's own setting and your device's permission. Go down this list:
- Turn on Notifications in that Bot's settings.
- Allow Grok Bot alerts in your phone or computer settings.
- On your phone, turn on Notifications in the Grok Bot app's settings too.
- Make sure the Bot isn't hidden. Hidden Bots stay quiet.
- Test with Grok Bot in the background. Alerts don't show while its window is in front.
Group chats have no alert switch for each Bot. Phone alerts are still rolling out, so your account may not have them yet. Turn on alerts for Bots that run routines. Their approval requests expire after about 10 minutes.
A routine didn't run?
- Check that it isn't paused.
- Check the time zone under Settings, then Bot, then Timezone.
- A new routine waits for its next time. Set it for 8:00 AM at 8:05 AM, and it first runs tomorrow. Tap Test to run it now.
- Make sure the plugins it uses are still signed in and you have usage left.
- Routines check your Cursor plan. Cursor Start doesn't include them, even with SuperGrok linked.
If it isn't paused and hasn't run for a day with no error, report a bug.
Maybe it's your usage
When your weekly usage runs out, your Bots stop until the week resets, unless your account has on-demand usage. Cursor's staff say the app sometimes shows no notice, so the icon flashes and nothing comes back. Open Usage & Billing in the app, or your Cursor account page if you don't see it. See how Grok Bot's limits work.
When should you email support?
Write to hi@cursor.com when the steps above don't work, or when Recover or Reset fails twice. Send your account email, the app version and platform, what you tried, a screenshot and the request ID.
To get the version, open the account menu, then About, then Copy version info. To get the request ID, right-click the message and choose Copy request ID. Never send passwords or codes.
Do other agents break too?
Yes. OpenAI's dots are new too, and early users report their own bugs. See fixes for dots. Want to check what you pay for? See every plan and limit.

Is Grok Bot down right now?
Check status.cursor.com and look at the Grok Bot row. The app doesn't show outages, and xAI's own status page has no Grok Bot row.
What does "Can't reach your computer" mean?
The cloud computer your Bots share isn't answering. Your Bots, files and chats are safe. Wait, choose Retry, then quit and reopen the app before you try Recover.
What does "Model provider is overloaded" mean?
The model behind Grok Bot is too busy, and it turns some requests away. Your account and computer are fine. Wait a moment and send your message again.
Should I reset Grok Bot's computer?
Only as a last step. Reset rebuilds the computer from its last save and can lose recent changes. It doesn't fix an outage or a busy model.
Why is Grok Bot not connecting?
For a sign-in loop, update the app, sign out and in, and clear cookies for cursor.com and x.ai. For an app that won't connect, open the plugin and tap Authorize.
Why don't I get Grok Bot notifications?
Turn on Notifications in that Bot's settings and allow alerts on your phone or computer. Alerts stay quiet while the Grok Bot window is in front.
How do I contact Grok Bot support?
Email hi@cursor.com. Add your account email, app version and platform, a screenshot and the request ID. Right-click the message to copy the request ID.
