Dot fixes
ChatGPT dot not working?
If your OpenAI dot isn't working, find your problem in the table below. OpenAI has no help page for dot problems yet, so some fixes come from early users. We say which is which.
Checked
| Problem | What helps | Fix from |
|---|---|---|
| A site blocks the cloud browser | Ask your dot to use your computer, or use a plugin. | OpenAI |
| Your computer shows Offline | Keep the ChatGPT app open and online. | OpenAI |
| An approval doesn't stick | Open the task and approve it there. | Users |
| A call rings and nobody answers | Update the app, or ask it to answer while it rings. | Users |
| Your dot stops replying | Check status.openai.com, then contact support. | OpenAI |
| A recurring task didn't run | Spell out the task, then ask your dot to confirm what it saved. | OpenAI (setup advice) |
Can't find your dot?
Check these first. Your plan, country and device all decide whether you get a dot:
- Dots come with ChatGPT Pro or a Business Premium seat. Free, Go and Plus don't include them.
- Pro doesn't include dots in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland yet. Business Premium does.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Set up your dot in ChatGPT on a computer. You can't create one on your phone. After setup, you can message it from the phone app.
- On Enterprise, Edu or Healthcare, an admin must turn on Use dots first. It is off by default.
Is it just you?
Open status.openai.com. It has a row for dots. Don't trust a green row on its own. On October 6, an incident named dots for 36 minutes, and the row still read 100% the next day.
Cloud browser blocked by a site?
Your dot browses from a cloud computer. Some sites block cloud browsers. The website makes that choice. OpenAI gives three ways around it:
- Ask your dot to try your connected computer. It can try the site in your own browser. This needs your computer online with ChatGPT open.
- Use a connected app or plugin when one does the task. It skips the website.
- If the site wants you to sign in, take over the browser and sign in yourself. The cloud browser doesn't share your normal logins.
Early reports say Google Cloud Console, Zoho Mail and BioRender won't load in the cloud browser. One user says the Bitwarden add-on doesn't work on the dot's computer.
Your computer shows Offline
Your dot can use your own computer only while it is online. The ChatGPT app must be open on it. Offline means it can't reach the computer right now. It doesn't remove access. You can connect one computer at a time.
- Open the ChatGPT app on that computer and keep it open.
- Check the dot's profile. Under Computers, then Your computer, choose Allow access.
- Turn off a VPN, proxy or web filter, or try another network. OpenAI gives this advice for ChatGPT errors in general.
- On Enterprise, Edu or Healthcare, ask your admin to turn on local computer access. It is off by default.
Connecting your computer to Codex doesn't give your dot access. It needs its own Allow access step.
Dot approvals not working?
Open the task itself in Activity and give the approval there. Name the one action you allow. Users say this works when a yes in the main chat doesn't. Your dot can hand work to a separate task. Users think that task may not see what you said in the main chat.
OpenAI's own advice is close. Open the waiting request and answer it, and give ongoing instructions a clear scope: who, what and when. Approving one message doesn't give your dot ongoing permission to contact people. Asking for a draft isn't a yes to send it.

Your dot won't pick up
Users report calls that ring and ring, end with “Call failed,” or drop mid-sentence. OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux said on October 1 that a fix is coming. He said your dot decides whether to pick up and may be busy with other work.
Users tried these, one or two people each:
- Update the ChatGPT app. It worked for one user. Others still had failed calls after updating.
- While it rings, type to your dot and ask it to answer.
- Restart the dot itself. One user says restarting Codex alone didn't help. Another user describes how: right-click the dot in the sidebar and pick Reboot.
You can type to your dot during a call. Calls from your dot to you are not out yet.
Dot not responding?
Check the status page first. If there is no outage, contact OpenAI support. You can also try a pause. Open the ••• menu in your dot's profile, choose Pause, then tap “Paused • Tap to resume.” One user says this did nothing. Pause may not stop tasks your dot handed off, and it doesn't cancel scheduled runs.
Your usage may be the cause. One Pro user saw “Your dot is on a break” for hitting a limit. Replies came back under two hours later. Chats with your dot don't count toward ChatGPT limits, but Codex and Work tasks it starts do.
Don't reach for Reset to fix a quiet dot. Reset deletes your dot with its chats, memories and scheduled tasks, and you can't undo it.
No reply in Slack or by text? You add Slack from your dot's profile on a computer. By default, your dot answers only you there. One user reports that replies in a channel can fail while direct messages work, so try a direct message. Texting your dot is a small beta for Pro users in the US only.
Its computer or files are gone
Some users say their dot's cloud computer shows Unavailable, or files they made there vanish. OpenAI hasn't replied to these reports or posted a fix. Its guides say the cloud computer can keep its state between uses, but they don't promise to keep your files.
Users save their work to Git or a cloud drive. In one report, published Git commits survived. Some say Reboot brought the computer back, and others say it didn't.
A recurring task didn't run
Give the task four things. Say what to check and when to run, with your time zone and any end date. Then say which changes to tell you about and where to send them. Then ask your dot to confirm what it saved.
Open Scheduled in ChatGPT to see your recurring tasks and change the time. Connecting Slack or adding your dot to a channel doesn't make it watch that channel. You have to ask for a watch task. A task that runs on your computer needs it online with ChatGPT open.
Each recurring Dot OS job already says what to check and what to tell you. See all 1,048 jobs.
It remembers something wrong
You can't see or delete single dot memories yet. Tell your dot the right fact in chat. It can update its notes. Turning off ChatGPT Memory stops new sharing but doesn't delete what your dot already knows. The only full wipe is Reset.
What do early users report?
Dot bug reports end up in OpenAI's Codex project on GitHub. We sorted the 238 GitHub issues filed from September 29 to October 7 by symptom. Many come from developers. The biggest group, 51 reports, is about tasks your dot runs on your computer or in Codex. These matter most if you don't code:
| Symptom | Reports |
|---|---|
| Approvals don't reach the task | 25 |
| The cloud computer is down or its files are gone | 20 |
| A website blocks the cloud browser | 17 |
| Your computer shows Offline | 15 |
| The dot stops replying | 9 |
| Calls ring or fail | 5 |
No OpenAI staff member has replied to any of them on GitHub so far. The people who filed the 16 closed ones closed them themselves.
How do you report a bug?
Contact OpenAI through its help center. OpenAI says to report a dot's mistakes there too. Some users also send feedback in the app and quote the feedback ID it gives them. Developers file dot bugs in the openai/codex project on GitHub.

Why is my ChatGPT dot not working?
Dots are new, and early users report bugs. In GitHub bug reports, outside coding setups, the most common are lost approvals, a cloud computer that goes missing and sites that block the cloud browser. Check status.openai.com first.
What do I do if a website blocks my dot?
Ask your dot to try your connected computer instead. Use a plugin if one fits the task. You can also take over the browser and sign in yourself.
Why does my dot say my computer is Offline?
Your dot can only use your computer while it is online with the ChatGPT app open. Offline doesn't remove access. You can connect one computer at a time.
Why won't my dot answer my call?
OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux says a fix is coming. One user says updating the app helped, and others say it didn't. Another types to the dot while it rings and asks it to answer.
Does resetting a dot fix it?
Reset deletes your dot, with its chats, memories and scheduled tasks. You can't undo it. Check the status page and contact support before you Reset.
