Meta Muse not working?

Is Muse down?

Meta has no status page for Muse. Do two quick checks:

• Open Muse on your phone, the web and your Mac. If it fails the same way on all of them, the problem is on Meta's side. Reinstalling won't help.
• Look at r/MetaAI or r/MuseAgent on Reddit. If people post the same error that day, it is an outage. In many outages, only some accounts fail.

Users report several outages so far. Tools failed with “user credential is expired” from September 23 to 25. Many accounts got stuck on connecting on September 28. Many users got error replies on October 1 and 2.

Task stuck and waiting?

Muse asks you before it sends messages, buys something or shares your information with a connected app. That ask shows up as a card in the app, not as a chat message. Open the app and look for it. You can pick Allow once, Allow for this task, Allow for this site, Always allow or Deny.

Take care with Always allow. One seller picked it for Marketplace replies. Muse then sent a buyer his home address without asking him again.

Muse stuck on connecting?

Muse shows “connecting,” “reconnecting” or “waking up” and your messages fail. Muse runs on its own cloud computer, so you see this on every device. Users say it came back by itself, from a few hours to a day later. Reinstalling, logging out and paying for a plan didn't help them.

Don't reach for Reset. It deletes your chats, files and active tasks, and you can't undo it. One user who reset Muse ended up on the waitlist. If you must reset, download your data first in Settings, then Data controls, then Download your Muse data. For one stuck user, the download failed too, so try again once Muse is back.

Muse says it can't help?

Two error replies show up most often. “Sorry, I can't help you with this request right now” can come back on every message, even “hi.” Users say it cleared after 20 hours to two days, and that it isn't the usage limit. Two of them had most of their weekly limit left.

On October 1 and 2, many users saw “Sorry, I ran into a problem while responding. Please try again.” They waited a few hours and it worked again. One user says the web failed while the phone app worked.

Muse's browser won't load sites

From October 1, users say Muse's browser failed on every site, with errors like err_connection_reset. Two users fixed it the same way. They told Muse to stop every running task in every chat, then waited a couple of hours. Taking control of the browser yourself didn't help in this case.

Only some sites fail? Some sites block Muse. Amazon does. Users also report trouble on Delta, Yelp, Indeed and X. If a site wants you to sign in, choose Take control of the browser and log in yourself. Muse can't read sign-in codes or reset links from your email. You type those yourself.

A scheduled task didn't run

This is the one problem Meta has posted a fix for. Around October 5, the Muse team said some scheduled tasks failed to restart after outages, and that it deployed a fix. Check your tasks under Upcoming, or ask Muse “What reminders do I have?” One user tells Muse to try a failed task again an hour later.

Muse Gmail not connecting?

Meta has no help page for Gmail errors. One user's Gmail connected, then dropped and wouldn't reconnect. Another user saw Google Drive and Calendar marked connected while every request failed. Try these:

• Go to Settings, then Connectors. Disconnect Gmail, then connect it again. This worked for one user.
• Another user suggests you first remove Muse from your Google account's permissions page, so Google asks you again. No one has said yet whether it works.
• Made a new Gmail only for Muse? Google disabled three users' new accounts for suspicious activity. Two of them won an appeal to Google.

Facebook or Instagram won't connect?

Meta says Muse connects Facebook, Instagram and Threads by itself when they share one Accounts Center, so check that first. Some users get “This profile is not eligible to be added to a Meta Account at this time.” One user's way around it: ask Muse to open its browser, then log in to facebook.com yourself.

Messenger connector not syncing?

One user says the Messenger connector signs in fine but sees only two chats, both without end-to-end encryption. Reconnecting, entering the PIN and a full re-sync didn't help. Nobody has found a fix. Press reports at launch listed Messenger as a connector, but Meta's connectors help page doesn't cover it.

WhatsApp? You can chat with Muse in WhatsApp. Users say Muse can't read your WhatsApp chats, and Meta hasn't said. Users who open WhatsApp Web in Muse's browser say it logs out often. One user pairs it again every morning.

Can't sign in to Muse?

Users see “couldn't finish signing in,” a login page that loops, or codes that never arrive. On a Mac, two users fixed it this way: uninstall Muse, open Keychain Access, delete the Meta and Muse items tied to Muse, reinstall Muse and sign in again.

Muse needs a Meta account. You can make one with Facebook, Instagram, an email or a phone number.

Why is Muse so slow?

Meta hasn't said. One user says Muse got much slower than when they started, and calls its browser terrible. When a chat gets long, one user starts a fresh side chat and asks Muse to pick up the work there.

Muse image generator not working?

We found only a few reports, most during the September 23 to 25 outage. Waiting fixed those. Check which product you mean, too. Muse Image is Meta's image model in the Meta AI app, Instagram and WhatsApp. That is a different product from the Muse agent.

Can't use Muse at all?

Muse works only for people 18 and older in the US and Canada. Users outside those two countries report “Muse isn't available to you yet” or a waitlist. See where Muse works.

• In the US or Canada and still blocked? One user suggests you check the country on your Facebook account. Another suggests your phone's region.
• Users say Muse may ask for a card to check your age. One got stuck there.
• Saw “We disconnected Muse to protect your information”? Six users report it. For one, it came after Meta suspended their Meta account. No fix is known. Submit the ticket it asks for, though the form failed for one user.
• Out of usage? Wait for your free limit to refresh, or pay for more. See Muse's plans.

We don't advise a VPN. To pay for Muse, Meta says you must be in a country where it works.

Muse on Mac can't reach your files?

Muse needs Full Disk Access, Automation and Notifications. Turn them on in System Settings, then Privacy & Security. In Muse, open Settings, then File System Access, and pick Read only or Read and interact for each app. Two users saw Muse say it had no access with every switch on, and found no fix.

How do you report a problem?

On the web, click Settings in the lower left, then Report an issue. In the app, shake your phone and choose Submit a report. Users say replies to tickets are rare, and the form can fail during an outage too.
